dear premier,

this will not be a well worded letter. i'm tired from three days of boat work in the hot sun. i work hard on a project to help some people figure out what is wrong with the lake in their town. i want to be able to go back to cape breton as i please and have it near as pretty as i left it. i want the people who live there now to have something to be proud of. i want my parents to be able to live in the woods peacefully. clean air, ferns, mixed forest, mosquitos, black flies, migratory birds, fish, rabbits and deer. you are beginning to negotiate a deal that will make this very difficult. you are barking up the wrong tree.

YOU WANT TO BUILD A STRIP MINE. from broughton to the morien sandbar. i'm not sure what for. my parents were tired too. my dad spoke at the public meeting and was already snoring on the couch by the time i called.

so...you call for tender because you're a province and you have mineral rights. someone won and now this someone wants to do exploratory work. since your laws are so stellar you allow extraction of a hell of a lot of mineral without an environmental assessment. you need roads to extract anything at all, i say. mom says that the "someone" who got the tender has already strongarmed some seniors who don't know any better (by telling them that their land could be expropriated) into signing contracts that basically let the contractor have free reign over their properties on which existing roads lie.

i thought you were trying to attract seniors to retire in nova scotia? i thought one of the things that you were supposed to boost the economy with was tourism? i thought we may have learned our lesson about NON RENEWABLE NATURAL RESOURCE BASED businesses/economies/cultures.

i'm coming home in a week. get ready for a big punch in the face.
