today i wrote my first graduate exam. i walked in to the department, where i found the secretary who had my exam for me. she took me to a rectangular vacant office, unlocked the door, and seated me at a desk and said, "hand it in to me by 4pm". it was then 11:45.
i guess maybe i still feel like an undergrad who needs my id checked at the door and has to be told to put my coat and cheat sheet at the front of the room before i begin. this was a strange new territory i had stepped in on, but i liked it.
from my 13th floor office window i had a nice view of west edmonton. i was higher than the smokestacks which normally tower above me on the sidewalk, adorned in their alien green and siren red christmas lights in the night sky. i listened to do make say think for the entire afternoon while eating granola and yogourt and writing essays about lead, babies, lungs, heroin. then i walked home and called my mom.
